Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC One (M9), Sony Xperia Z4 and the LG G4 are the four heavyweight flagships which are expected to be announced in the next couple of months. We know for a fact that both the Galaxy S6 and HTC One (M9) will be released on March 1st as part of MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona, which leaves us with the remaining two devices. Speaking of which, we have some new info regarding the LG G4, its release date that is.
According to the latest report, LG’s upcoming flagship will be announced in April, which is about a month earlier than the G3 unveiling time frame in 2014 (that handset was revealed at the end of May). This report comes from Korea Times, and it seems like LG wants to avoid a direct clash with both the Galaxy S6 and the One (M9). “LG Electronics decided not to release the G4 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition in Barcelona in March, it may release it in April,” says Korea Times, which has been tipped by an unnamed source it seems. Another LG source said the following: “Samsung usually releases its new flagship model in the first quarter of each year, and Apple in the second quarter. We need some in-between time to make a bigger splash.” LG’s executive confirmed that the company won’t launch the G4 at MWC quite recently, so this kind of adds up. As a reminder, this is what the executive said while giving an interview after LG announced their latest quarterly results: “We rolled out the G3 in May last year so we do not plan to unveil the G4 at this year’s Mobile World Congress and [will] spend more time perfecting the new phone.”
April seems like a perfect timeframe for the LG to launch their new flagship. They’ll avoid the direct clash with both Samsung’s and HTC’s flagships, and might even avoid the iPhone and Xperia Z4 as well, though that remains to be seen.
