Samsung adding new smartphones to Galaxy J series

While the world braces for Samsung’s latest devices in their top-tier S series of devices to land in consumers’ hands this week, new information has surfaced about some forthcoming devices at the other end of the spectrum of Samsung’s portfolio. At the budget end, Samsung is working on the J series of devices and earlier this year released the Galaxy J1. Sources indicate Samsung has two new devices to join the J series, the Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7.

The Galaxy J5 will be the smaller of the two new units, coming with a 5.0-inch TFT LCD display capable of supporting HD resolution. This will be powered by a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, a 2,600 mAh battery, and 8GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD card.

The Galaxy J7 gets a bigger 5.5-inch display, a choice of either a 1.2 GHz or 1.5 GHz octa-core Marvel processor, the same 1.5GB of RAM, either 4 or 8 GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD card, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

Both smartphones will come equipped with a 13 MP rear-facing camera, although that could be downgraded to an 8 MP unit in the final version, and a 5 MP front-facing camera. The devices will be 4G LTE capable and will run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. No word has been released yet on availability or pricing. The Galaxy J1 was released in India at a price of approximately $115 USD. Although these new devices are significantly better than the Galaxy J1, they are still lower-end devices, so pricing should not be much higher.
