Unity And Intel Announce Support For Current And Future Intel Based Android CPUs

AH Unity

If you’re a game developer for mobile and the Android platform, there’s a good chance that you’re familiar with the Unity engine. If you play mobile games on the Android platform, there’s a good chance that you’re also familiar with the Unity engine. It provides a great base for some really awesome 2D and 3D games, many of them coming with some really cool graphics thanks to the power and performance behind Unity. The unfortunate thing prior to now is that Unity didn’t quite work so well with Intel and x86 for Android. That is all about to change as Intel and Unity have just recently released some press information that they will soon be supporting Unity together on x86 for Android which means more support and potentially better games for Android powered devices that are running on Intel chips.

This is great news for developers who use or at least prefer to use the Unity engine but want to be able to provide apps to as wide of a set of devices as possible, which this collaboration with Intel seeks to do. This will ultimately help to advance the development for Intel based Android products. Unity states that they will be making the necessary changes to ensure that CPU performance improvements and features on Intel architecture is worked into future releases of the Unity 4 and Unity 5 engine product lines. Intel devices are becoming more and more available, which makes this new collaboration for future support so crucial to both companies. Both will be able to benefit immensely from this.

Developers should be pleased not only with the advancement of Intel support for Unity, but also by the fact that adding Intel support for their apps and games using Unity will apparently require minimal effort. Unity also states that they’re adding support for all of Intel’s current and future processors, leaving next to no one left out of the mix. With Unity being used by half of all mobile game developers, it shouldn’t surprise that a large portion of them have been asking for more support for Intel based devices, and now it seems like they’re finally having that request fulfilled. It’s a great day for game developers and gamers alike.
