Since last week the world has gone mad for Material Design. It’s been no secret and for months now we have been expecting Lollipop and its Material Design sweetness. Yet still since the latest preview image was released last Friday the world is literally going Material mad. The only problem is the Lollipop preview was only made available for owners of the Nexus 5 and 7 and as such most Android users have had to simply look on in admiration and jealousy. To try and combat the building envy there has been a number of small fragments of Lollipop released in apk form from different sources. These do not make up for an overall Lollipop experience but have softened the blow by offering glimpses at what is on offer and the Material Design feel. If you missed the previous reports they included the release of the Lollipop Google Now launcher and also the Lollipop Keyboard. I’m running both now and they do make me feel like I am getting a bit of an Android 5.0 feel.
To try and add to the effect a couple of days ago a selection of Material Design wallpapers and Lollipop sounds were leaked although some users seemed not greatly happy with the selection of wallpapers. However, this could have just been that there was not enough of them and the craving for Material Design being too much. If the latter is the case then don’t worry. A new app which popped on the Play Store today is brimming with Material Design goodness and ready for you to download. The app contains a sheer load of Material Design themed wallpapers all containing the typical bright colours and strange designs and Material shapes. The ones we saw leaked last week are also included to offer a real authentic Material Design feel. In total there are currently thirty wallpapers and the best thing is they are optimised to work on all android smartphones from Android 2.3 and up. Unfortunately, though the developers do note that they are not designed for tablet use yet.
So if like me, the Lollipop Google Now launcher combined with the Lollipop keyboard is not Material enough for you then this may be the solution or at least a temporary one for now. Oh by the way did I mention it is free? Well, yes it is. So those interested head over to the Play listing and grab your free Material Design wallpapers. Let us know what wallpaper is your favourite. Mine is currently the one shown in the fourth image below.
