It’s hard for some to think of Google Glass as something that can be considered “cool,” but I suppose the term cool is all relative isn’t it? Glass may not be as stylish as your pair of Ray Ban aviators, and even I can personally admit that I look better in my own pair of sunglasses than I do wearing Google Glass. Even though style can be important, as it allows you to wear your personality, Google Glass isn’t cool for the style(yet it still looks plenty more stylish than any other alternatives working with similar technology)it’s all about the awesome things you can do with Google Glass that make it cool and unique, and something that people just want to try out when they lay eyes on it for the first time. All of that is also the same thing that keeps me as well as many other people interested, finding original ways to share Glass experiences with the world around you. Finding new ways to make Glass benefit others, and utilizing the technology to do some good on top of all the fun things that can be achieved with it.
Something unique is exactly the kind of treatment that was given to Google Glass recently by music and dance artist FKA twigs, who did a variation of her latest hit song and music video titled “Video Girl” while wearing a pair of Google Glass during parts of the recording. Wearing Glass during the shoot wasn’t the end of it, as she also used parts of the video recording function that Google Glass carries to shoot portions of the music video itself, mashing together parts of professionally shot footage with third person filming to make for an interesting watch. Essentially the altered parts of Video Girl show FKA twigs looking up dance choreography through Glass, which puts the focal point on Google Glass and its search capabilities as well as the things we can do with wearable technology these days.
The video by twigs is appropriately named #Through Glass, the same as the popular hashtag for Glass Explorers who share their experiences to social media through pictures and videos while wearing Google Glass. If anything, it goes to show the truly different and original things that can be done with wearable technology, whether you find it stylish or not. Google Glass is still only offered as an Explorer model, which means the high price tag still stands, but with each passing day Google is likely doing all they can to ensure the best experience with Glass which will hopefully move it towards a consumer launch in the near future.
