TiVo app update enables content streaming Android devices

android-tivo

TiVo users rejoice, the company has just updated its Android app to allow in-home content streaming. From today you will be able to steam most of your recorded shows, as well as some live content, directly to your Android device over your home WiFi network, and possibly over your carrier network connection too.

However, not all pay-TV content will be available outside of your home, as this varies depending upon the content owner.

Other app features include the ability to bring up background information for the cast and crew of the show you’re watching, should you be interested. You can seamlessly switch content from your Android device to TV at the touch of a button, and can also use the Android app as a remote for your TiVo Roamio DVR.

You will need an Android device running 4.1 or higher to be able to download the app, but it won’t work correctly if you’ve rooted your device, according to some of the app’s mixed reviews. If you haven’t done so already, you can download TiVo’s app directly from the Google Play Store, free of charge.
