Google Nexus 6 / X: What Processor Will it Have?

AH-Nexus logo

The Google Nexus 6 or Nexus X is quickly approaching, and we are looking at what we might see inside this beast. And it looks like we’ll probably see either the Snapdragon 801 or the 805. I’d be more willing to bet it’s the Snapdragon 801. And the reason being is that the Snapdragon 805 doesn’t give much of a performance boost or a battery boost for 1080p displays. Yet it costs a bit more for manufacturers to put it in there. While the Snapdragon 801 is great for 1080p displays. Additionally, Motorola is supposedly making the Nexus 6, and if that is the case, it’ll likely have the same specs as the Moto X. Which does sport a Snapdragon 801, along with 2GB of RAM.

A lot of people are hoping for the NVIDIA Tegra K1 in the Nexus 6, but I honestly hope we don’t see it in the Nexus 6. Judging from past experiences, the Tegra chips are really poor on battery life on smartphones. But are great for tablets. Additionally, Tegra chips are usually pretty expensive, so that would mean we wouldn’t see the Nexus 6 as cheap as it’s previous models were, like the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5.

So how well does the Snapdragon 801 perform? It performs quite well actually. Having used it in the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, LG G3 and the Moto X this year, I’ve had no complaints about it. And with Android L coming, it should be even better. Especially in terms of battery life.

So the Nexus 6 will likely have a Snapdragon 801 inside. What do you think it’ll be sporting come October? Let us know in the comments below.
