When it comes to update Wednesdays, things can be pretty hit and miss. Some Wednesdays bring us nothing more than very minor updates, while others are more eventful. It seems this Wednesday is of the latter category, bringing us a Chromecast mirroring and now an update for Google Camera and Gmail as well.
First up, let’s talk about the Gmail update. While not nearly as significant as the Google Camera update, it seems that Gmail has now added the ability to attach files from Google Drive. While that’s all that we have noticed for sure, we imagine that there are at least a few other minor tweaks and bug fixes.
Of greater importance is the latest update to Google Camera, which introduces remote functionality for Android Wear. In short, you can now use your G Watch and Gear Live as a remote shutter button for your smart phone. This basically means you can tap on your watch to take a picture and you are then presented with a countdown. Once the shot is taken, you’ll be able to preview the image right from your watch.
This feature could be useful if you have a tripod and are looking to take group photos with yourself included, if you are trying to stealthy take a picture, or really for just about anything — your imagination sets the limit. The Camera update doesn’t offer much else apart from this, so this update is really only of major value if you have (or are planning to buy) an Android Wear device.
Both updates will start rolling out gradually, though you can always grab the APK and download manually if you don’t want to wait any longer than you have to.
