It’s update Wednesday, and you know what that means…UPDATE ALL THE THINGS. And we’re starting off with the Google Camera. Google launched the Camera APK in the Play Store a few months ago, and it’s available for every device running Android 4.4 KitKat and above. So it’s not just for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, etc, but any KitKat device. The camera has always been pretty minimal since it launched on the Play Store. But today it’s getting a few new features. One of those being a remote shutter for Android Wear. So now you can use your phone’s camera and snap a picture from your watch. We aren’t sure how well this works just yet, but Pebble tried this with their smartwatch earlier this year and it wasn’t pretty. It was super laggy and a lot of dropped frames. So hopefully Google did a better job.
Additionally, there’s a new Panorama interface in this updated Google Camera. Now we’ve got bigger circles to get our panorama and Photo Sphere’s started. Which isn’t a major overhaul, but it is definitely worth mentioning, at lest in my opinion. The update is rolling out now through Google Play. But as always, it’s a staged rollouts. Don’t we just love staged rollouts? Well don’t worry, we’ve got ya covered. If you’re looking to get the Google Camera on your device now, we’ve got the APK download below for you to install on your device. Just remember that you need to download it, check Unknown Sources in the Settings > Security, then install the APK. Obviously it’s going to overwrite the Google Camera you already have installed.
How many of you are using the Google Camera instead of the one your OEM packages in with your device? Let us know in the comments below.
