For those that are unaware, Dual Window on the LG G3 is basically the same as Samsung’s Multi-Window. Dual Window allows you to have two apps open at the same time, but much like Samsung’s Multi-Window, not all apps are compatible out of the box. Although I’m sure we’ll see some mods enabling all apps to be compatible with Dual Window. Out of the box we have messaging, email, gallery, Chrome, YouTube, Maps, Hangouts, Gmail and File Manager compatible. Which is a pretty slim amount of apps, but we do have an SDK so hopefully more apps build in compatibility soon.
How to Enable Dual Window
- Open Settings
- Tap on General
- Scroll down to “Smart Functions”
- Tap on “Dual Window” to make sure it’s turned on
How to Open Dual Window
- Long press the back button, until you see the Dual-Window pop up
- Select the apps you want to open, or open a recently opened combination of windows.
- That’s it.
Dual Window is pretty cool, but it does need some work. We should see some great new things from it in the G Flex 2, G Pro 3 and even the G4 later this year and next year respectively.
