Microsoft Surface tablets are pretty nice pieces of hardware, and it’s not just that they have models running full versions of Windows that you can run full programs on including Office, photoshop, and even PC games on, it’s also the thin sleek profile, the magnetic tablet keyboard attachment, and the built-in kickstand on the back that lets you use it propped up with ease. We aren’t the only ones who think the surface tablet is a stylish device, as you can find just about every angle of this new ‘Ultra Tablet'(designed and manufactured by Jide Technology which was formed by three ex-Google employees)evokes the design of the Surface tablets from Microsoft.
Now we aren’t judging by any means, whether this looks like the Surface tablet or not is none of our concern. We aren’t Microsoft. With that being said, blatant copies are blatant copies so we’re not going to hold back from pointing that out. We’re actually curious to see how these things operate though. The Ultra Tablet runs an operating system called the Remix OS(also created by Jide)which is more or less a mashup of Windows 8 and ChromeOS at least in style. No joke, the UI is so strikingly similar to both of those that it’s uncanny. It’s actually a customized version of Android 4.4.2 but Jide does have plans for a Lollipop update this year. Whether or not the UI is different enough to keep the wolves at bay(and by wolves we mean teams of lawyers calling for a cease and desist)remains to be seen.
Jide Technologies apparently had this thing set up at CES 2015 this week, unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to see it for ourselves. The tablet is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4+1 chipset and has 2GB of RAM, and it sports a 11.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It also carries front and rear facing cameras(both 5MP)and it will reportedly come in two different sizes, a 16GB model and 64GB model with no word that we could find on a 32GB model. Both size models will carry a microSD card slot with support for up to an additional 128GB of storage if you need it too. The 64GB model is expected to be priced at about $449, with the 16GB model coming in at $100 cheaper although the prices haven’t been finalized yet by Jide. You can find a full list of specifications below in the images, along with some shots of the tablet itself. Truth be told it actually looks like a cool tablet and we wouldn’t mind using one. That is if it’s ever allowed to make it to market.
