Xiaomi To Turn 5 Years Old And Announce The Second-Gen Mi Pad Tablet On March 31st

Xiaomi Fifth Anniversary

Despite the fact Xiaomi is currently the number 1 smartphone manufacturer in China, and third worldwide, this company is really young. Xiaomi was founded back in 2010, and will turn 5 years old on March 31st. The company managed to fight their way to the top in a very short period of time, which is commendable no matter which way we look at it. Their marketing and sales model is kind of unique and has been working perfectly in China, it remains to be seen how will it work in other markets once Xiaomi expands (which could happen this year by the way).

The company has teased exciting product launches for said date, and has basically confirmed that they will launch the 2nd-gen Mi Pad tablet via their official Weibo (Chinese social network) account. Xiaomi did not reveal the specs of the Mi Pad 2, but we did see a leak back in December last year which said that the device will retain the 7.9-inch display. That leak also said that Xiaomi is about to replace Nvidia’s Tegra K1 chip with Intel’s processor clocked at 1.8GHz, and that the device will once again sport 2GB of RAM on the inside and 16GB of internal storage. Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to come out of the box here with Xiaomi’s MIUI on top of Google’s OS.

The new tablet might not be the only announcement by Xiaomi on said date though. The company might launch a Redmi Note 2 handset, their first smartwatch or the mysterious Xiaomi “Ferrari” mid-ranger which leaked yesterday. Rumors from Xiaomi forum are stating that it might be the case, but it seems kind of unlikely at this point. Xiaomi will probably want to make the company’s fifth birthday special, but it’s somewhat unlikely that they’ll opt to launch 3 new devices. It is possible, of course. The aforementioned “Ferrari” handset showed its face at GFXBench yesterday revealing part of its specs. This handset will allegedly sport a 4.9-inch display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core chip will power it on, and 13 and 5-megapixel cameras will be available as well. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop was also mentioned in the listing. March 31st is less than a week away, stay tuned.
