Samsung Galaxy S6 Wireless Charging Pad Makes an Appearance on FCC’s Website

Samsung 3

Wireless charging is becoming increasingly popular among smartphone manufacturers as it provides an easier method of leaving your phone charged around the house. Samsung’s upcoming flagship device is also set to include this technology, and now its round wireless charging pad just paid the FCC a visit.

FCC’s website now shows a comprehensive documentation regarding the wireless charger of the Samsung Galaxy S6, and we can draw some good conclusions from what we’ve seen. It’s listed under the model number EP-PG920I which belongs in a special section for related accessories. Based on the info posted there, we’re looking at a round charging pad which is produced in Vietnam, with an input of around 5V. From these 5V, only 3V reach the smartphone, as the charging pad functions with just 2V. This is just a minor inconvenience for what the charging pad allows you to do, and other charging pads are pretty similar in voltage. The Qi charging standard has a long way to go before it is perfected, but as this technology is becoming increasingly common, it will be heavily improved in the coming years. The Samsung Galaxy S6 will feature a 2,660mAh battery so charging it may not take very long, especially with the addition of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The documentation listed on FCC’s website shows that this round charger was tested on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 so there’s no information as to how fast the S6 will charge or how efficient it is, but it’s a start. We’ve seen wireless charging work on older Samsung Galaxy flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S5, but only with the addition of stickers or special cases, which aren’t quite the same as if it were implemented by default. Wireless charging is generally slower than the standard charger, however it has the added benefit of location, as you can place it anywhere around your house. We’ll see how true these rumors are when the Samsung Galaxy S6 is officially unveiled on the 1st of March, and we can put an end to all these rumors then.

Feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts on this wireless charger model.
