Xiaomi Is Under Investigation By The Taiwanese Government As It Plans Russia Expansion

AH Xiaomi Logo 1.6

You’ve all probably heard of Xiaomi by now. This China-based tech manufacturer is all over the news lately and I doubt that will change anytime soon. The company has been planning an expansion abroad for quite some time now, they already opened up an office in Brazil though they still haven’t kicked things off over there considering they have issues with device certification process. India is another country this company has targeted and they have successfully launched their business over there. Xiaomi partnered up with Flipkart and has sold a ton of devices through Flipkart “flash” sales, Redmi 1S device is particularly popular in India and has been selling like crazy. Another market Xiaomi wants to start selling their devices is Russia, which is logical, aside from South America and India, Russia is a logical choice considering how huge the market actually is. According to reports from Russia, Xiaomi plans to sell company’s full range of products over there, smartphones, tablets and smart TVs.

This Chinese manufacturer is going to face some more problems it seems. The company is under investigation by the Taiwanese government as a cybersecurity threat, according to Reuters. The government is expected to reach a decision on this matter within three months. Xiaomi’s devices send data automatically to its servers in China and that could potentially lead to security breaches, at least according to the government statement. It is unknown what kind of consequences might Xiaomi face if Taiwanese government decides the company is guilty. Xiaomi already had similar issues when the company had to apologise because their devices were sending subscriber data to Xiaomi servers.

I doubt this will hurt Xiaomi in any way even if the verdict doesn’t work out well for them, they can always alter the way they handle data from their devices. Chinese manufacturers are expanding at an amazing pace and it will be interesting to see who will be on top in about a year. Xiaomi is definitely on the right path, but Meizu seems to be doing just fine as well. There other, even more known Chinese manufacturers out there, like Huawei and Lenovo for example. Both Huawei and Lenovo have a presence outside of China for quite some time now, though their smartphone business vastly differs from Xiaomi’s and Meizu’s dealings.
