Google Play Music Update Now Only Allows 5 Out Of 10 Authorized Devices To Be Phones

It’s not quite Wednesday but that isn’t stopping Google from updating some of their core apps. Upon opening the “my apps” section in the Play Store I noticed that Docs was listed in there, but we’re not sure what if any notable changes have been made. The changes worth mentioning today seem to be coming to Google Play Music, which has recently began updating for users alongside another Google app, YouTube. We talked about the changes made to YouTube earlier, or rather one change, So let’s go over what this update to Google Play Music has to offer those who use the app and service.

First off, one glaring change which may or may not effect many users is the change Google is making to the “authorized devices” list for Google Play Music. No they’re not chopping the number in half or anything like that, at least not in actuality. They are however chopping the number of authorized devices that can be phones in half, as you used to be able to use any device you please as one slot in the total list of 10. If you had 10 phones, prior to this update every single one of them could have been an authorized device. After the update is finished, users will not be able to use more than five phones in the list, while the other five could be saved for tablets, a Google TV, a Chromebook, Chromebox etc.

This is a change that like we stated above probably won’t effect many users as most people may only have a few phones that they tie to the account. There are those select few though that may have their Google Play Music account linked on many different phones so that everyone using those devices could be listening to a vast music library. Besides the alterations Google made to the authorized devices list, they changed up a few UI design elements as well. Not really design elements of the UI but more or less placement of certain things. Google has now moved the toggle switch for playing music from “on device” or streaming from the cloud library to the window panel that you access by swiping out from the left, along with the capability to switch between your Google accounts from the dropdown switcher up above like you can in just about every other Google app, like the Play Store and Gmail for example. Is anyone a little let down by the authorized devices tweaks?
