Report: Xiaomi Might Launch The Redmi Note 2 On January 15

Xiaomi is all over the news in the last couple of days. We’ve seen a lot of leaks, rumors and reports regarding their device recently, and the company’s CEO even announced that the company will launch their new flagship handset next month. It’s a bit early for the company to launch the Mi4’s successor, but that’s the only device I can connect to a work “flagship” as far as Xiaomi goes. The company will also release a new, upgraded dual-LTE version of their Redmi 1S handset (though they might market it as the Redmi 2S, who knows) on January 4. This is not all though, we’re forgetting about the Redmi Note 2 handset which has also been talked about recently.

January 15th was mentioned several time in reports as the date Xiaomi will launch something, my guess is that they’ll launch either the Mi5 or the Redmi Note 2 on that date, while the latest report claims that the Redmi Note 2 will get launched on said date. As I already mentioned, the Redmi Note 2 handset has leaked several times thus far, we’ve seen its alleged back panel and specifications. According to the leak, this handset will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. MediaTek’s MT6752 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 SoC will power on this device and Android 4.4 KitKat will ship with the handset with MIUI 6 OS on top of it. 3,100mAh battery will come with the device as well, and as far as the cameras are concerned, this device is expected to feature a 13-megapixel snapper on the back, and a 5-megapixel shooter up front.

This would be a significant upgrade over the original Redmi Note, especially the 3G version which ships with only 1GB of RAM. A bump in resolution, processing power and storage is also welcomed and I believe Xiaomi will somehow manage to keep the price as low as it should be, the report says it will cost 899 Yuan, which is approximately $145.
