Analyst: Xiaomi Mi5 Probably Won’t Be Powered By The Snapdragon 810 SoC

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors are probably the most respected mobile SoC today. These are extremely powerful chips which many manufacturers use in their devices, no matter if we talk about their low, mid or high-end device, Qualcomm has you covered with a range of processors for each category basically. The Snapdragon 810 processor has been a long awaited release by Qualcomm and that chip is almost ready for mass production, but not yet. Let me just remind you that this is a 64-bit octa-core chip which is expected to be included in many flagship handsets in the coming year.

That being said, many manufacturers are waiting in line to incorporate this chip in their newest flagship offering. We’ve seen many leaks in the last couple of weeks connecting some of the most expected flagship handsets with this chip, like the LG G4 and the HTC One M9 “Hima”, which is actually to be expected. Both of these devices are not expected to launch for another couple of months, so it’s quite possible both of them will incorporate the Snapdragon 810 in the end. Xiaomi will launch their Mi5 flagship next month and basically every rumor says that this handset will sport the Snapdragon 810, that might not be true though, this chip is not expected to hit mass production until Q2 2015. It is of course possible that Xiaomi will only announce their device in January and won’t release it until March, or something to that effect, but that would be… well, not smart by the company. Chinese analyst, Sun Changxu, also said that Qualcomm’s newest mobile SoC won’t go into mass production until Q2 2015 and that these rumors might be way off as far as Mi5’s processor of choice goes.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC is a 64-bit octa-core mobile processor which consists out of 2 quad-core units, quad-core ARM Cortex A57 and quad-core ARM Cortex A53. This chip also includes an Adreno 430 GPU which should tear through any graphically intense processes you can throw at it. This SoC supports Cat.6 LTE connectivity along with USB 2.0 / 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.1. The chip is built on 20nm process and it also allows you to take advantage of Qualcomm Quick Charge functionality, should your device allow that of course.

Anyhow, do you think that Xiaomi Mi5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC, or will this China-based OEM think of something else, use the Snapdragon 805 perhaps?
