Huawei’s Smartphone Sales Rose By A Third In 2014

Huawei logo

Huawei is one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in China. I doubt some of you who read this haven’t heard of this brand considering they’re present in various markets around the world for a long time now. Huawei has done a great job in 2014 and like some other Chinese brands managed to manufacture some really appealing high-quality devices. The company has also improved their Emotion UI which they ship on top of Google’s Android OS on their devices. Huawei Ascend Mate 7, Ascend P7, Honor 6 and Honor 6 Plus are truly remarkable devices and the latter two are really affordable as well.

It seems like Huawei is reaping the benefits of their hard work. According to Reuters, Huawei’s smartphone sales rose by almost a third in 2014, to $11.8 billion. Reuters claims this is based on the internal memo they have laid their eyes on which was issued by Richard Yu, head of Huwaei’s consumers business. They shipped about 75 million smartphones in 2014, which is more than 40% year-on-year increase, but it seems like Huawei expected to sell around 80 million units, so they actually didn’t meet their quota, although these are great results for the company. Huawei is expected to formally announce their results for 2014 in the coming weeks, along other companies, and we’re rather interested to see the numbers of some of them, like HTC, LG, Samsung, Xiaomi and Meizu.

Huawei is facing tough competition in China though, Xiaomi and Meizu mean business and both of those companies have done a great job in 2014. Both of them released great handsets this year and sold a ton of them. All these companies are expected to grow even further in 2015, and we’ll keep a close eye on Huawei, Meizu and Xiaomi, all three of those companies have great potential to slowly close the gap on Samsung and Apple. Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi are expected to battle for the top Chinese smartphone vendor in 2015 according to a Trendforce analyst, Alan Chen, who said the following: “How Lenovo’s Motorola acquisition plays out and whether Xiaomi can replicate its home market success overseas will be key factors in determining who becomes the top Chinese brand in 2015″.
