Nokia HERE Maps now available for free on Google Play and available in 18 more countries

Nokia has announced availability of HERE Maps for Android, their navigation app that’s backed by years of the company’s expertise in navigation and directions. The app has hit Google Play in beta form, bringing offline maps and navigation, including support for public transit, in over 100 countries. The total list of supported countries jumps to 118 with these 18 places being afforded a spot on the list today:

Algeria, Angola*, Bangladesh*, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cyprus, Iraq, Libya, Mauritania, Mauritius, Nepal*, Paraguay, Saint Helena, Senegal*, Sri Lanka*, Suriname*, Zambia*, Zimbabwe*

The asterisk notes countries where full road information is not yet available, so you’ll mostly be limited to maps and won’t get to partake in full turn-by-turn goodness. Folks who have already sideloaded the APK from Nokia’s site will receive the latest version of Google Play without having to do anything, while those not yet in on the fun can park it right here for a no-nonsense download. Here’s to Nokia continuing to find a solid home on Android, and let’s hope their interest in a platform they once denounced won’t fade away anytime soon.
