Yesterday, we told you folks that Google would look to release Android 5.0 Lollipop for Android Wear smart watches today, and in that story we shared an image of a Moto 360 smart watch with a beautiful watch face (pictured above). The artist has since been revealed to be Hugh Turvey, a world-renowned x-ray artist who creates unique pieces based on a very interesting technique.
Turvey, a 43-year-old British artist, got his start at the Swindon Art College and attended a handful of other art and photography schools to hone his craft. His work, which has been featured in the National Geographic, mostly consists of interesting representations of the human and animal body, nature and even mechanical creations through the advent of x-ray technology. It’s fascinating stuff that you should definitely check out.
So what’s with the Moto 360 watch face we saw leaked yesterday? Well, it looks like Turvey was tapped by Google to whip up a collection of great designs to use on Android Wear smart watches to celebrate the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Google Play listing for the watch face reveals a few more great designs that you’ll be able to get your hands on once you get the Lollipop upgrade for your smart watch of choice.
The watch face can automatically cycle through the 24 different images loaded up based on time of day (we imagine you’ll see one per hour), or you can choose one image if you happen to enjoy one above all the rest. You’ll have freedom to choose between 12-hour and 24-hour formats and choose between either digital or analog styles. The app’s description also mentions the images can be seen in a different perspective when viewed through a kaleidoscope, a very interesting quirk to check out if you happen to have one of those lying around.
The app is only compatible with Android 5.0 or higher as the watch faces likely use the new official WatchFace APIs that comes along with Lollipop. This would seem to confirm our report that Google is looking to unleash the aforementioned upgrade at some point later today, and they’ll likely be gushing over the new drags Turvey provided for folks to enjoy whenever they make that announcement.
Take a look at some of the designs you’ll be able to apply to your smart watch above and below, and stay tuned as we look to dig for more about today’s big update.
