All Android Wear Devices Should Now Have The Update To Android 5.0.1

Android 5.0 Lollipop is still very much a hot topic in the tech world, and with good reason as there is much to love about Lollipop and all its sweetness. As most of us still wait for Android 5.0 (or perhaps OEMs will jump straight to 5.0.1) Lollipop to hit our smartphones and tablets, those of us who own and use Android Wear smartwatches should all have gotten the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to our devices by this point. The OTA’s for the updates to Android Wear began rolling out over a week ago, and although it has taken a little time to reach everyone, your device should have received the notification about the update as Google states that the rollout has been completed.

There is at least one requirement of course, if you were to have expected to receive Android 5.0 to your Android Wear device and that’s the connection of the watch to your phone or tablet. If it hasn’t been connected for the better part of the week chances are you don’t have the OTA that’s come through. Motorola with their Moto 360 was one of the last to push out the OTA to users, even having to push the initial rollout back a couple days to hit all devices by the end of this week to smooth something out. Now that the rollout has completed I went to check my own Moto 360 to see if the OTA notification was there and lo and behold, I was greeted with the message I was hoping to see, that I had an available software update.

Lollipop on Android Wear brings in some new features like Sunlight and Theater modes, as well as the option to now take screenshots of your Android Wear device from the Android Wear companion app. It also now includes support for third party watchfaces with the official watchface API, and a rather useful new feature to bring notification cards back from the dead, by which I mean you can now bring back cards you have swiped away. If you’re device has Lollipop as well, then you also now have your notification status synced with your watch, i.e. setting your notification priorities to none on the watch will change the status to the same thing on your device and vise versa. If you haven’t checked your watch in a couple days, give it a peek and see if anything awaits you.
