Reneging on the years-long threat of killing our kittens and destroying our houses, Videolabs has finally taken VLC Media Player for Android out of beta.
While it might be late to the party compared to other third-party audio and video apps for Android, VLC still has legions of fans, stemming from years as many users’ preferred desktop video app.
It’s still not a perfect release, lacking Chromecast support (which was promised earlier this year), full compatibility with 5.0 Lollipop, and support across all devices. But it’s a start.
Now go and enjoy those totally-legally-obtained .mkv files.
