Dual SIM Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Appears In China, Released Soon

dual SIM Note 4

Most carriers have high international roaming charges for calls, text messages and, especially, data. And whilst nobody likes the idea of paying a lot of money for what’s broadly the same service when you’re overseas as you get at home, I’d like to thank the carriers for still insisting on these sky high rates – because without these silly high prices, we would have a little less innovation in the smartphone sphere. We’ve seen numerous ways to handle cheaper calls including tiny stickers for SIM cards, software solutions that redirect calls via a cheaper service provider, to including another SIM slot in our devices. And here’s where the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 4 drops into the range.

A Chinese version of the Note 4 has appeared, the SM-N91000, which sports two Micro SIM slots. Otherwise, the Note 4 remains the same device. You get the same processor, although the Note 4 has a choice of three different chipsets (covering Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung Exynos processors), 3 GB of RAM, a large superhigh resolution Samsung AMOLED screen and a 3,220 mAh battery. The Note 4 of course comes with Samsung’s S Pen stylus and of course the usual software refinements. It runs Android 4.4 Kit Kat under the Samsung TouchWiz interface but you can bet it’ll be high up in the Samsung queue to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop (but typically the dual SIM version lags the single SIM version).

Let me write a little bit about the Note 4’s dual SIM setup; the big Samsung has dual SIM standby, which is common with many other dual SIM devices. However, the first SIM includes 2G, 3G and 4G networks but the second is 2G only. Going back to my opening line where I was moaning about the high roaming costs, it seems that Samsung have forgotten about data roaming, should you be interested in buying one of these for international travelling. Using a local SIM for calling and texting is fine, but surely with a device such as the Note 4 it’s more about using the smart functionality of the handset? Still, with the right SIM set up, it would be possible to have SIM 1 set up for LTE data and to handle all calls and text messaging via SIM 2!

Is this the Galaxy Note 4 you’ve been dreaming of? Do you only buy dual SIM handsets because you travel a lot? Let us know in the comments below.
