Sony announced a ton of new devices this morning. Including three new smartphones (The Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and the E3). Now they’ve also announced the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Which is a smaller, 8-inch tablet from Sony. As the name “compact” implied. It’s basically got all of the features of the larger Xperia Z2 tablet, but of course a smaller display. Looking at the press images, it looks like the bezel is quite a bit smaller, which is always nice to see as well. Although we venture to guess that the larger bezels are due to it being waterproof, which the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is also Waterproof as you’d expect.
As far as specs go, we’re looking at a 8-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 3GB of RAM with 16GB of storage and a microSD card slot. There’s also a 8.1MP camera on the back and a 2.2MP front-facing shooter along with a 4500mAh battery inside. We do also have all the flaps for the charging port, and microSD card slot as you’d expect. Since it is a waterproof tablet rated at IP65/68. So it can stay under water for about 30 minutes or so. Which isn’t bad at all.

Verizon was nice enough to send over the Xperia Z2 Tablet earlier this summer for us to take a look at, and I really liked it. It was a really nice tablet and one I’d definitely buy. And that’s coming from a guy that’s not a fan of 10-inch tablets. So seeing a 8-inch tablet from Sony is exactly what I wanted to see. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact should be available later this fall worldwide. We don’t have any word on LTE versions. But I’m sure we’ll get more info on that a bit later.
