iOcean is yet another Chinese manufacturer that most of you have never heard of. This company has launched a rather solid iOcean X8 smartphone back in May. That device is sporting a 5.7-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. MediaTek’s octa-core MT6592 chip is powering the thing and the device also sports a 14-megapixel rear-facing camera. The device has rather solid specifications and reminded us a bit of Sony’s Xperia devices as far as design goes. iOcean has yet another X device for us, this time around they launched the X1 smartphone.
If you though this is a high-end device I have to disappoint you. The X1 belongs in a mid-range category at the very best, I’d even say low-mid range suits it better. The device sports a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB). MediaTek’s MT6582 quad-core processor is powering the device and a 1600mAh battery is juicing it up. Android 4.4.2 KitKat comes out of the box and the device comes with an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter. The device also comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. LED notification light is also a part of the package and this is a dual-SIM device capable of 3G connectivity.
The device is available for pre-order at $112.99 and you can get it internationally via a number of resellers. It is available in green, blue, yellow, red, white and black color options. This device is truly nothing special, but it’s not supposed to be. At that price, iOcean is aiming at a really affordable device which should be available to pretty much anyone. There are tons of options when it comes to affordable smartphone and most of them come from China. Chinese manufacturers have really been doing a great job lately and you can get some really solid device shipped your way if you look for them. Xiaomi, Meizu, iOcean, Elephone, IUNI… there are tons of options in basically every price category and with tons of variety when it comes to specifications.
