Stunning LG G Watch R announced ahead of IFA!

This industry is ruled by those who bring out the best devices ahead of the competition, something LG seems to have a good handle on. The Korean manufacturer has been teasing a smartwatch for some days now. We thought we would have to wait until IFA to get a good look at it, but it seems LG has thrown us all a curve ball and announced the LG G Watch R ahead of next week’s event.

LG’s new smartwatch stands out for its unique design. Following only Motorola’s Moto 360, this is among the first Android Wear devices to come with a circular display. Furthermore, its casual aesthetics makes it very unique and will allow it to easily blend in any crowd or environment.

In fact, I would say the LG G Watch R is much more “normal looking” than the Moto 360. These press renders showcase devices that oddly resemble older Casio watches. It also helps that the stock watch face gives it a very classic look, but that is something you can easily customize if you so choose to.

Also interesting is the set of specs the LG G Watch R has to offer. Inside that beautiful body you will find a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, which is an outstanding chip for a smartwatch. Keep in mind this is the same processor smartphones like the Moto G currently use. Other specs are listed below.

LG G Watch R specs

  • 1.3-inch full circle P-OLED display

  • 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor

  • 512 MB of RAM

  • 4 GB of internal storage

  • Dust and water resistant

  • 410 mAh battery

While this smartwatch doesn’t look as glamorous as the Moto 360 in images, it’s made of premium materials. The strap is made of 22mm calf skin leather, which in turn holds a durable stainless steel frame. It’s also relieving to see this unit is dust and water resistant, a highly-requested feature.

This is quite a winner under our eyes, competing only with the best of the best. Price is still up in the air and LG is not ready to unveil such details, but the device should be launching in key markets by Q4 2014. We defintiely don’t expect it to be the cheapest, though. Are you signing up for one?
