Since Apple introduced 64-bit computing to the smartphone market last year, Android fans have been waiting to see when a 64-bit processor will show up in an Android device. In addition to waiting on manufacturers to ramp up production of 64-bit chips to be placed in Android devices, Google has to add support to the operating system. That should be coming with the release of Android L. A new user agent profile file found on the Samsung web site suggests the company is poised to have a 64-bit device ready in the near future to go with the official release of Android L.

The file that was discovered is for a Samsung SM-G530F which is listed as having ARM Cortex-A53 processors instead of the typical Cortex-A7. The Cortex-A53 processors are found in the Snapdragon 61x line of 64-bit processors. The processors are expected to run about 50 percent faster than the Cortex-A7 chips. They are also supposed to be more power efficient, so not only will they be faster, they should last longer on a battery charge.
