When it comes to water-resistant handsets, one of the first brands that comes to mind is likely Sony. Just about every global flagship device coming out of Sony these days has some sort of water/dust resistance baked in, but now Sony wants to bring this same trademark resistance to the mid-range as well. The new Xperia M2 Aqua is the first fruit of this effort, offering the same specs as the standard M2 but in a sealed up in an IP68 package that even outdoes the IP58-certified Xperia Z2.
Like the M2, you get a Snapdragon 400 CPU with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD, a 4.8-inch qHD display, an 8MP rear cam, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, and a 2300 mAh battery. Sony says the phone will arrive this fall in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. There’s no mention of North America, though it is worth noting that the regular M2 is available through Sony — so there’s a slight chance it will arrive eventually. Sony has yet to give pricing, but we imagine it will end up costing more than the standard M2, which will set you back around $290 in the US.
