There are a few things in life that are inevitable: death, taxes and Motorola Moto X sales. Every time we turn around the handset seems to have some special promo or offer, and today’s promotion (valid through 8/21) means you can get the Moto X for $349.99 off-contract with a free wood back upgrade. The wood upgrade also applies to on-contract handsets, which at this point are just a penny.
So why in the world would you buy the Moto X when the X+1 is obviously just a little over two weeks away from being unveiled? If you are interested in specs and the other rumored improvements found in the X+1, you’d certainly be wise to wait. Those that are simply looking for a good deal and don’t mind less-than-cutting-edge specs might find the Moto X is still more than worth picking up.
The bigger takeaway from these constant sales is that Motorola seems to be phasing out its stock of parts for the Moto Maker. While Motorola has yet to officially confirm that it will stop selling the Moto X via Moto Maker when its successor arrives, it seems pretty likely at this point. That said, there will probably be plenty of non-customized Moto Xs left over after the debut and likely at even greater price cuts.
What do you think, does it still make sense to pick up a Moto X? Do you think Motorola will continue to offer the handset through Moto Maker after the X+1 arrives?
