Google Job Posting Sounds Like Retail Stores Could Be On The Way, But Likely Isn’t The Case

We have heard of Google opening retail brick and mortar stores in the past, but thus far the closest we’ve seen to that reality is the Google pop up sections living within Best Buy(and other electronic stores)that house various Google products, like Chromebooks, the Nexus devices, Chromecast dongles, accessories and Play Store gift cards. That’s all well and good and even though Best Buy is certainly one of the absolute worst shopping experiences you’ll have as a customer of any business that has a retail outlet, at least it’s something. That could change though as Google has recently posted a new job up on their jobs board for a position titled as “Manager of Store Operations” set in the North America region. This could be evidence that we might finally be getting some Google Store locations spread out across the U.S. where consumers could go to purchase Google Products and get a hands on experience with knowledgeable help, similar to the experience customers get when they visit an Apple store. As much as we like to joke about Apple sometimes, the staff at their retail stores are usually extremely friendly, they know their stuff, and they’re helpful.

Before we get too ahead of ourselves here though it’s entirely possible that Google is merely looking for someone to fill a role, that manages the Google partnered businesses that house Google products like we see in Best Buy. The job posting states, “In this role as North America Manager of Store Operations, under the guidance of the Head of Americas Store Operations, you are accountable for day-to-day operations of Google in-store activities for US and Canada. This includes Carrier Retailers, Big Box and other Consumer Electronics and Specialty Retailers.” In truth, that is exactly what it sounds like Google needs although we can’t rule out the possibility that this person would also oversee operations for potential and official Google Stores. There are multiple references though to dealing with the customers and employees of businesses that are already vendors for Google products. It’s a nice thought to think that we could in the future have official Google retail stores where one could go and interact with all kinds of Google devices, get help and support for stuff they already own, and just generally learn about the devices and other products Google has to offer, but that probably isn’t the case here.
