Samsung Gear VR Manager Leaks Out

We know that the Gear VR does exist. For those that missed it, it’s basically Samsung’s version of Google Glass. And now Sammobile has their hands on the Gear VR manager and have posted just about everything about the app already. Much like the Gear Manager that is used to control Samsung’s Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, the Gear VR Manager is there to pair your Gear VR with your device – which will likely need a Samsung phone to work. Sammobile states that they were unable to verify a few things in the app, since they don’t actually have a Gear VR just yet. Which would make sense as to why it didn’t work fully, that and it is still early beta. But they were able to open the HMT Manager. Which has all kinds of features and services in there, like alerts for when you undock your Gear VR headset.

The Gear VR hardware is being done by Samsung, while the software is a conjunction between Oculus VR and Oculus Rift. So they’ve got some guys that really know what they are doing. It’s important to remember that Oculus Rift has blown away everyone that’s attended CES the past two years (January 2013, and January 2014) at how much it can do. Oculus Rift was also picked up by Facebook earlier this year, surprisingly. Samsung expects to open up the Gear VR SDK at IFA in September, where they should also be announcing the Galaxy Note 4. There will also be an entirely specific section of the Samsung App store for Gear VR apps.

We know that Google Glass has been taking it’s sweet time coming to the public so it makes us wonder if Google is just being slow, or if Samsung is just rushing their Gear VR headset. it could be a bit of both. But we’ll see at IFA in September.
