HTC has been pushing a ton of their apps into the Play Store, basically following Motorola’s footsteps, since the launch of the HTC One M8. Earlier this week, HTC pushed their keyboard into the Play Store and now they are pushing their clock app over there. Yes this is their clock app that houses the alarms and everything else. Kind of interesting to see that hit the Play Store, I wonder what kind of updates it’ll get in the future? As Android Central points out, it’s been on the Play Store for a few days but no one was able to update it until today. And that could be due to the Android 4.4.3 update that is rolling out to HTC One M8′s everywhere right now. Although according to the comments on their post, it looks like a lot of people still can’t update – we are unsure if these are Android 4.4.3 people or not, though.
It’s great to see HTC pushing these apps into the Play Store. It means that HTC can update them without needing to push out an entirely new OTA. Which as most of you know, can be a huge headache, after getting certified by the carriers and such. And if there’s a bug, they need to push another OTA. But if it’s in the Play Store, they can just push out an app update and within a few days everyone is updated. Much easier, and much more streamlined, in my opinion. This is actually a page out of Google’s book, while Motorola was the first OEM to do this, Google has been doing it with their own apps for a little bit now. Including the Google Play Services and Google Keyboard apps.
How many of you are sporting a HTC One M8? Are you able to update the HTC Clock app just yet? Let us know in the comments below.
