HTC One M8 Brings Profitability to HTC After Nearly a Year

HTC-One-M8-57

HTC has been in the red for quite some time now. Pretty much ever since 2011. Before 2011, HTC was on top. They were basically where Samsung is now, except they weren’t that big. HTC makes great devices, but the weight of their Sense UI is what held them back, that and the lack of “new” flagship devices. In 2011, they made 84 different smartphones worldwide. That’s pretty insane when you think about it. Ever since, HTC has been cutting down on the amount of devices they are making, and also been trying to get out of the red.

We were all excited about the HTC One M7 last year as it was a great device, and were even more excited about the HTC One M8 that came out a few months ago. Many tech reviewers like ourselves loved the HTC One M8, even though we wished they had gone with a bigger megapixel camera on the M8, it’s still a great device. But this year, HTC did something slightly different, they decided to do some mid-range and low-end devices, under the Desire brand. And they have actually been doing pretty well in the countries that they have been sold in. Which has led HTC back to a profit.

This is the first time they’ve made a profit since Q2 2013, and their profit for Q2 2014 was 2.26NT Billion, which isn’t a ton, but it is a step in the right direction. Considering Q1 2014 we saw a net loss of 1.88NT billion from the Taiwanese manufacturer. Hopefully HTC can continue to grow, as we love having them around. HTC is also rumored to be making the Nexus 9 for the fall, which in the past the Nexus program has drastically helped the OEMs that made the Nexus devices. After Samsung made the Nexus S in 2010, they really started to take over, and LG in 2012 has seen the same thing. So we’re hoping for the same for HTC.
