Asus Is Bringing More Devices Like The PadFone X To America

Asus and AT&T finally launched the PadFone X at the beginning of June, after announcing it back in January. Apparently sales are decent, because Asus is planning on bringing more Android devices like the PadFone X to the States. Asustek VP Benson Lin says the U.S. variant of the PadFone flagship device is gaining some market acceptance and sales are up. In a press conference announcing the new ZenFone device lineup, Lin said PadFone X sales have been “pretty good”. That doesn’t give us much in the way of concrete numbers, but the 2-in-1 device must be doing okay if Asus is planning on releasing more smartphones to the U.S. market.

When Asus announced the PadFone X back in January, it was the first time they had stepped into the U.S. wireless realm. It took the company, in partnership with AT&T, almost six months to finally make the device available to consumers. We haven’t taken much interest in it, mostly because new devices like the HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5, and the LG G3 have been announced since then. Someone is paying attention though, and more importantly someone, somewhere, is spending their money on the PadFone X.

The PadFone X is a 5-inch smartphone that slots into a 9-inch tablet. The smartphone powers the tablet. Both devices have 1920 x 1080 resolution displays, and the smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel camera and provides LTE connectivity for you. AT&T sells it for $199 with a new 2-year contract, or you can pick it up on AT&T’s Next plan. Next 12 gets you the device for $22.92 per month, while the PadFone X on Next12 will cost you $29.80 per month.

The PadFone series is probably Asus most popular line of devices, after the Transformer Pad tablets. The company likes to combine devices. Consumers seem to like the idea as well. It can save money and save space when compared to buying a separate smartphone and tablet. Asus is betting that sales of the PadFone X will continue to increase and that future devices like it will sell well. How say you?
