Android Wear Can now use Custom Watch Faces

Screenshot 2014-07-04 13.07.10

Here’s an interesting development. You can now use custom watch faces on your brand new Android Wear smartwatch. Whether it be the LG G Watch or the Samsung Gear Live, both of which are shipping now, you can now use custom watch faces. Previously you could only use the ones that came pre-installed with Android Wear. Which do have some nice ones, but it’s nice to customize that as well since that’s basically what Android was built on. Android Wear is actually a full version of Android.

There are already apps popping up with custom watch faces in them in the Google Play Store. And there is a section of Android Wear apps also in the Play Store, which we have over 50 of them. There’s now an app that claims to be the first Android Wear watch face, and claims to bring a premium experience to the smartwatch. I’m not sure about premium, as I’m not a huge fan of it. But that might just be me. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

It’s great to see watch faces for Android Wear making their way into the Play Store, and I’m excited to see what else pops up in there. If you’re interested in developing your own Watch Face, make sure to check out the Github, but also the Android Wear SDK which Google released last week. It’s going to be interesting what kind of apps and watch faces we get for Android Wear over the next few weeks. How many of you have already ordered a LG G Watch or a Samsung Gear Live? How many of you are waiting to see what else comes out this year? Maybe the Moto 360? Or something from ASUS and HTC? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
