No Surprise: Android L Developer Preview Has Been Rooted!

AH Android logo 1.6

Yesterday, Google released the developer preview of Android L for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. Plenty of people have gone flash happy and have been flashing away with the Android L developer preview, which was to be expected, as it’s an amazing looking update. Android L is due to get a proper name this fall and a full release is coming in the fall as well. We’re diving into L now and getting all kinds of new goodies in there that weren’t mentioned in the keynote. But now we’re hearing that Android L has been rooted. Now that shouldn’t really be a surprise since Android L has been made for Nexus devices, and Nexus devices are always really easy to root. That’s one of their selling points actually.

Thanks to the Android Soul and Chainfire has updated his SuperSU.zip file to make it easier to get root access on Android L, which is great to hear. For those that want to run Android L but still need some sort of root access on their device. As always, you’ll need a custom recovery for flashing SuperSU.zip, but that’s pretty easy to do with Android L and has not changed since previous versions of Android. So there’s that.

Android L introduced a ton of new features, and a complete redesign which we haven’t seen a redesign this big since Ice Cream Sandwich nearly three years ago. There’s plenty of new features in Android L as well. Like the new battery app, Do Not Disturb Mode and so much more. Google has also put like 5000 new API’s in this update which will be releasing in the fall. So if you’re a developer, you’ll want to get into Android L now and get to updating your app so that you’re ready for the release in the fall. How many of you are excited for Android L?
