According to a report coming out this morning, it appears that about 1 out of every 2 Galaxy S6 that Samsung is selling has a curved display. Which means for every Galaxy S6 they sell, they also sell a Galaxy S6 Edge. Pretty interesting considering all the people worried about the curved display on the phone, and how durable it’d be. Both smartphones are selling really well for Samsung. That’s great news right? Especially after the Galaxy S5 launch last year. Well it is, except, Samsung didn’t anticipate this many people ordering the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which means shortages are incoming. Samsung execs are stating that shortages may last about another month or so.
Currently, we don’t have any idea how many units Samsung has actually sold. But following their announcement at MWC, they had orders from their partners for about 20 million units. These are known as units shipped, as they are sent to their partners. Which include Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, Best Buy, and other retailers. We know pre-orders were pretty strong as well, but still no official numbers from pre-orders either. It’s expected that Samsung will sell about 50 million Galaxy S6 units this year. And if this pace keeps up, with 50% of sold units being Galaxy S6 Edge’s that would be pretty impressive. Especially seeing as the Galaxy S6 Edge is more expensive then the standard Galaxy S6.
Samsung desperately needed to rebound following 2014, and it appears that they have done just that. The Galaxy S5 was meet with a lot of skepticism, and Samsung saw other manufacturers pick up their market share. Dropping to about 20% compared to being at over 30% following the Galaxy S4 launch. The Galaxy S6 has been a success, at least so far, from what we can see. And we can only see it picking up through out the year.
