Internet users in Malaysia hoping to do a quick Google search today received an unexpected surprise. Instead of the Google search page displaying in their browsers, they were redirected to a hacked page with the message:
“Google Malaysia Hacked by Tiger-Mate #Bangladeshi Hacker”
The problem appears to have been upstream from the Google site, which is why the tech giant reached out to MYNIC for resolution. MYNIC is operated by Malaysia’s ministry of communications and multimedia and administers all web sites in the .my domain.
Earlier this year, Malaysia Airlines suffered the same fate. They indicated that their systems had not been compromised, so customer information was safe, which is likely the case with this latest attack on Google.
At this time, it appears MYNIC has fixed the problem
