Huawei had plenty to announce in London today. From the P8, the P8Max, and now the P8 Lite. As you can probably tell by the name, the P8 Lite is poised to be a mid-range smartphone from Huawei. It’s not as high-end looking and feeling as the Huawei P8, it’s not fully metal. However, it does still look quite decent for a mid-range smartphone, in my opinion. We know that it comes in black, as we can tell from the image above, Huawei didn’t give us a whole lot of detail on the Huawei P8 Lite, unfortunately.
It also has a 5-inch display which is 1280×720 in resolution. It does also run on their HiSilicon Kirin 620 processor. Which is a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, instead of the Kirin 930 that the P8 has which runs at 2.0GHz. Huawei has equipped this one with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage – there is a microSD card slot here that supports up to 128GB. We have a 13MP camera around back which does have dual-LED flash, along with a 5MP front-facing camera. All of this is powered by a 2,200mAh battery inside. It does have 4G LTE, 802.11 WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC. It’s dimensions are 143 mm x 70.6 mm x 7.7mm. So it’s not as thin as the P8 either. It weighs in at about 131g. Finally, it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei’s Emotion UI 3.1 on top.
Not a bad device for a mid-ranger. We don’t have pricing yet, but the P8 is going for 499 Euros, so I’d venture to guess that this will be slightly cheaper, maybe around 399 Euros or less. Just like with the P8, this P8 Lite likely won’t be making the trip over to the US either, unfortunately. It’s sad because it’s a pretty decent phone, especially if it was priced competitively here in the US. I think it could really give Motorola a run for its money, with the Moto G. However, it should be launching in Europe and Asia soon, alongside its larger siblings the P8 and P8 Max. Which were both announced today as well.
