Google’s Chrome comes in many forms and is available on many platforms. This is why the feature has become so integrated across platforms. That said, this also results in Chrome receiving a number of updates throughout the week, month and year. Sometimes they can be hard to keep track of due to an update rolling out to one platform and then followed by another platform quite quickly. This is exactly the case today. It was only hours ago that it was reported that Google had begun rolling out an update to the desktop version of Chrome. The update came in the form of Chrome 42 and brought to the desktop version, a number of performance improvements and the ability to receive push notifications from websites.
Well, it now looks like it is the turn of Chrome for Android. Google have today announced that Chrome 42 (42.0.2311.107) has now become available for the stable version of the Chrome Browser on android. The emphasis here is on ‘stable’ as this update already arrived back in the first few weeks of March for those who use the beta version of the Chrome app (the same time as the stable version was updated to Chrome 41). Not to mention, that it already arrived for those who also use the beta version of Chrome OS. As such, if you do use the ‘normal’ version of the Chrome Browser app on android, then you should see the update being pushed to your device soon enough. Google notes that the updated version will be available on the Play Store in the “next few days” although it is likely to be available sooner than that.
In terms of what’s new (and if you missed the previous reports for the other versions of Chrome), the update brings with it, the ability to receive notifications from websites when they have updated their site. The update also brings an improved ability to more easily add (pin) more frequently visited websites to the home screen. This will be utilized by a banner which will appear on sites visited more than others. Not to mention, the update will also bring the obligatory performance improvements and bug fixes.
