Huawei Tease Their New Flagship P8 Again

HuaweiTeaserAgain0315

Huawei have great plans for 2015. At the recent Mobile World Congress, the company showcased a number of new products including the new Huawei Watch, a beautiful smartwatch running Android Wear. Huawei are working on introducing new models around the world but especially for the North American market, where their current exposure is minimal. These plans are as ambitious as they are as aggressive but from what we’ve seen of one of the champion devices from MWC, the Huawei Watch, the Chinese manufacture appears to be going about it the right way: the Huawei Watch has been put together by world renowned watch designers. However, when it comes to Huawei’s reporting up-and-coming flagship smartphone, the P8.

We have already seen some Huawei P8 rumors and we’ve seen that the device is to be released on the 15 April. Huawei have been teasing the device: we’ve seen clues that the P8 will have a better screen and camera compared with the current P7 flagship, although this is par for the course for modern flagship devices. With regard to the P7, this is based around a quad core, 1.8 GHz Kirin 910 processor with 2 GB of RAM, a 5.0-inch, 1080p display, a 13MP rear camera and a 2,500 mAh battery. The current consensus is that the new P8 will be based around a slightly larger 5.2-inch, 1080p display built into a ceramic unibody chassis. Under the skin, it’ll use a modern 64-bit Huawei Kirin 930 chipset and have 3 GB of RAM and there will be a 13MP rear facing camera. Of course, these specifications are speculative and perhaps Huawei will surprise us.

If they turn out to be true, it will be no surprise that Huawei are sticking with a 1080p display rather than moving up to a QHD, or 1440p, display. This reflects Huawei’s recent comments about balancing the user experience with the technology available, whereby QHD resolution displays require more processor power and more energy for the display controller, which reduces battery life and increases the heat produced by the silicon chips inside. Huawei’s Kirin processors have been competitive with the rest of the industry and with 3 GB of RAM, the reputed P8 should be a smooth, solid performer.

Huawei’s decision to defer the P8 announcement until after the Mobile World Congress is probably because of a couple of reasons. One is that they knew Samsung and HTC would be announcing their new flagship devices and with the greatest of respect to Huawei, they would not be stealing the industry heavyweights’ column inches! Instead, Huawei sensibly decided to use the show for the new Watch. Perhaps the reason for the delay in the P8 is because the device was not yet finalized for the MWC… but for whatever the reason, we will know more in a little over a month.
