HTC Publishes a Trio of New Apps onto the Play Store, Likely for the One M9 Launch

Earlier this month, HTC introduced us to the HTC One M9. While many think that it looks the same as the One M8, it is a bit different. But that’s neither here nor there. Today, HTC decided to hit the publish button on three new apps for the Play Store. Those are HTC Tasks, HTC Boomsound Connect and HTC Connect. As you can tell by the names, these are for device specific functions on the One M9.

Let’s start out with Boomsound Connect. It looks to be an app that is dedicated to managing streams to AllPlay speakers. HTC’s Connect app actually does the same thing, but for different products. HTC Connect is for Bluetooth, DLNA, and Miracast streaming of audio and video from your HTC One M9. Both of those apps sound great, but if you already have a Chromecast, then you don’t really need it, after all. However, Boomsound Connect along with the AllPlay speakers should be pretty amazing.

The HTC Tasks app is pretty much self explanatory. It doesn’t appear to be changed much from the HTC One M8. HTC Tasks has been a system app on HTC devices for quite a while. Now that HTC is pushing the app into the Play Store it means that users will be able to get updates to the HTC Tasks apps without having to wait for an OTA to be done by HTC and approved by their carrier. Making updates much easier to get done. We’ve seen HTC do this in the past with a slew of apps for the HTC One M7 and M8. Including their Browser and keyboard.

All three of these apps are on the Play Store now. None of them should be compatible with your devices unless you have a HTC One M9 – since it’s not on sale yet, no one should have one. The HTC One M9 is slated to go on sale at the end of this month or early next month depending on where you’re located. The HTC One M9 will be available on Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon here in the US when it launches soon.
