The captivating nature of street art is something that Google has found interesting since last June when it launched a campaign to preserve some of the world’s most unique and amazing creations through the Google Art Project. Today Google is taking things with the Google Art Project and the street art scene to the next level by expanding the library of art available to 10,000 different works of art and counting. In addition, Google has announced that they’re bringing the capability to view this art on multiple web-connected platforms, making these artworks viewable on Chrome, Chromecast, Android and Android Wear through various apps.
Chromecast partner applications like Invurt.com & Land of Sunshine, WOOL, Steet Art India Foundation and others are available in the Play Store created on the Google Open Gallery platform to view on Android devices, and should allow you to cast the gallery of images to the big screen through the Chromecast’s new Backdrop feature that Google introduced last Fall. Google also recently released their first Android Wear watch face application which brings different art images to your wrist called Street Art Watch Faces so you have one more way to view stuff from the street art scene while on the go.
For those that interact with their computer a good portion of the day, Google’s new Google Art Project Chrome extension will place a new piece of art on your screen every single time you open a new tab. With a library of art already at 10,000 high-resolution images and more being added consistently, it’ll take quite some time to push through all of those pieces of art. With these new ways to interact with and discover street art Google is looking to highlight the creations that may never have had a chance to be seen by millions of people simply because these works of art don’t always last, either being painted over to make room for a new piece or because they have to be removed. If you enjoy street art and you’ve been using the Backdrops feature for Chromecast, there are currently 12 applications on the play Store that were created with the Google Open Gallery platform which should be compatible.
