Since the CyanogenMod team announced the release of their CM12 nightlies, the devices becoming compatible is consistently growing. In fact, this week has seen a number of new devices being added to the list. A couple of days ago saw the Moto E (2014) as well as the Oppo N3, receive their CM12 calling. While, even more recently, the very popular Moto X (2014) also saw its first nightly landing. So not a bad week for Motorola with both the Moto E and Moto X being added.
Well, today’s news is that another Samsung device is joining the CM12 ranks. Unlike the others we have seen this week though, this is not a smartphone. Instead, this is one of Samsung’s tablet offerings in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. This one is going by the CM codename ‘klimtwifi’ and comes in at 231.71MB. So, if you are a proud owner of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and have been running TouchWiz for far too long then now is your chance to test out CyanogenMod on your device. In its latest form, to boot.
Of course, if this is your first time trying CyanogenMod then you do need to be made aware that this is a ‘nightly’ download. This first and foremost means that you are going to see far more regular updates landing for the ROM once it is installed. Sometimes, literally, on a nightly basis (hence the name). It is also worth pointing out that this also means that it is considered an experimental build and not fully stable. That said, you are unlikely to experience anything too problematic. However, with these nightly builds it is at least wise to expect (and prepare) for some minor bugs. Not to mention, it would be wise to make sure all your important data is backed up. If this is your first time installing, you do need to also make sure that your device is rooted and you have a suitable custom recovery like TWRP or ClockworkMod installed.
