YouTube is by far the number one video sharing website / service in the world. Whether you want to check out the newest video spot, commercial or a funny cat video, YouTube is your best bet. Google is constantly trying to push the service forward in various ways, we’ve seen a ton of new features and redesigns during the last couple of years, and the company has announced that they’re working on the kid-friendly version of the service last year. YouTube wasn’t the only Google product that is about to get the kid-friendly version, Chrome was also mentioned, along with some other Google services.
We haven’t heard much about the whole project ever since Google hinted that they’re developing this, until now that is. It seems like the company is ready to launch the kid-friendly YouTube, called YouTube Kids, it will get unveiled next week. The company is preparing an Android app which will be designed especially for kids to use. YouTube has re-designed the interface, has removed the comments and blocked any content that is not appropriate for kids. The app will also push kids shows and educational video forwards, and the voice search will also be a part of this package and is supposed to help kids who can’t type to find videos they want to watch. Another interesting feature will be included here, parents will be able to limit how much time their kids spend using the app, which basically sounds like you’ll be able to set up some sort of a timer within the app or something of the sort.
The YouTube Kids app will be available starting February 23rd from the Google Play Store for free. It will be interesting to see this new kid-friendly app, and I’m sure that many parents will be happy to have something like this. YouTube can be a really useful educational tool if used properly, and this new kid-friendly application will surely help out with that, or at least Google is hoping it will.
