Rumor: Meizu To Release A MediaTek MT6795-Powered MX4 For International Market

The up-and-coming Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Meizu, released a couple of great devices last year, and they continued doing the same this year. This company received a significant investment from Alibaba, and is definitely on the right path. Meizu has big plans for 2015, and the next step is launching the Ubuntu-powered smartphone at MWC next week. Meizu has officially confirmed that their MX4 handset will be showcased at Canonical’s booth at MWC, and that it will come with Ubuntu pre-installed. We’ll make sure to share more info about that in a couple of days, and in the meantime we have a new rumor to share with you.

New leak popped up in China, allegedly showing a new version of the MX4 handset for the international market. According to the rumor, we’re not talking about a Ubuntu-powered device here, and the handset in the images has a home button, just like the Meizu MX4 Pro. The rumor says that this device, codenamed “Supreme”, will ship with MediaTek’s latest chip, the MT6795. This is an octa-core 64-bit chip which popped up on Geekbench quite recently, and it seems like this is MediaTek’s direct competitor to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC. This SoC comes with GX6650 GPU for graphics, and according to the tests, it is extremely powerful. The leak also says that the device will ship with a really capable camera, and that the device will ship in Pink, Silver, Pink-Blue, Emerald Green, Light Green and Champagne Gold color options. Fingerprint scanner is also mentioned by the source, and it will allegedly sport Samsung’s display, which means it will ship with an AMOLED panel.

This leak seems quite interesting, but take it with a pinch of salt of course. Meizu will launch the already released Meizu MX4 at MWC in Barcelona (same specs), it will just pre-installed Ubuntu on the device instead of Android-powered Flyme OS. This device is expected to launch after MWC, at least according to the leak. Based on these specs, this is an improved MX4 variant, but let’s wait and see if we get any additional information in the coming weeks.
