Twitter Rolling out “While You Were Away” Feature

Twitter-AH-4

Twitter is a great source for news. Whether it be the latest Android news, Sports news, or just regular local news. Just about every news outlet uses it to convey breaking stories to it’s readers and viewers. But Twitter has kind of failed to take advantage of it. Sure they have a ton of users – but also a big majority of those users are company accounts like @AndroidHeadline – a lot of their users aren’t all that active, if at all. And that’s a problem for Twitter, since they need to find ways to drive in revenue. Currently, the only way they are doing that is through Ads that users can buy. Twitter announced back in November that they were working on some new ways to get the news to everyone. Even those that aren’t on Twitter all day long.

This new “While You Were away” feature is one of those things. It’s basically a recap of what’s happened since the last time you were on Twitter. Some of the examples show tweets from sports teams, and others from journalists. I haven’t actually seen the new “While You Were Away” feature on my Twitter account yet (as far as we know, it’s rolling out gradually, kind of like Google’s app updates). But from what we can see, you can remove it like a regular ad. As you can see a big X in the corner. Which is nice for those that don’t want to see that. Also, it only shows one Tweet instead of a bunch, like Facebook does in their news feed. Which is much better, I think.

So far we’ve seen a lot of people upset over this new feature. I’m not sure whether I like it not, but I’ll have to wait until I can actually experience it, before I say whether it’s great or not. How many of you have seen this feature roll out to your account already? Let us know in the comments down below.
