Oppo U3 has been popping up in the news headlines for a while now. It showed up on GFXBench back in November and the device finally got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) earlier this month. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer has finally launched this thing, after launching the R1C handset a couple of days back. Oppo U3 was rumored to have the Optical Zoom included, but that’s not the case. Anyhow, let’s see what this handset has to offer.
This phablet features a 5.9-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display which is covering 75% of its front side, which is impressive. MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit octa-core chip clocked at 1.7GHz is powering on this handset and the device ships with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. 13-megapixel camera (IMX124) is located at the back of this thing and a 5-megapixel snapper is available on the front side of this thing. 3,000mAh battery also comes as part of this package and this is also a dual-SIM handset (micro SIM + nano SIM), not to mention that this handset also supports 4G LTE connectivity. Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this thing with Oppo’s ColorOS 2.0.1 on top of Google’s OS. The Oppo U3 also features an AK4961 dedicated audio processing chip and VOOC rapid charging technology, which basically gets your battery from 0 to 75% in half an hour.
Oppo also revealed a really odd accessory for this thing, a rabbit tail case. It sounds weird right, that’s because it is. There’s nothing special about it though, it’s just a regular case with an attached ball of fur to it. This might appeal to certain types of women… I guess, but it’s odd nonetheless. This handset is only available in China at the moment and it costs $451, Oppo did not release any news on this handset’s availability outside of China though. The U3 will probably be available in some other markets as well (at least within Asia), we’re expecting Oppo to release some news regarding that in the coming weeks. Until then, tell us if you like this handset.
