Amazon Set To Bring 4K Content To Prime Instant Video Along With Its Android Launch

With so many ways to watch and stream video through our mobile devices now a days why not add one more? Reports state that Amazon is gearing up to launch the Prime Instant Video service for Android users soon although there is no exact date as to when we could expect it to hit the Play Store and whether or not it will have any sort of restrictions on build versions of the software. Amazon’s Prime Instant Video is already on a handful of other devices and platforms but Android currently isn’t one of them, not unless you count Amazon’s line up of Kindle Fire devices. You can also find it on iOS and gaming consoles, but no Android.

Now that Amazon has apparently seen the light we should be getting Amazon Prime Instant Video sometime we’d suspect before the end of the summer, but that is merely a guess and it could show up by the holidays for all we know. With big players like Netflix, Hulu Plus, and others already available for nearly all Android devices whether smartphone or tablet, Amazon is losing out on a huge chunk of potential subscriber base due to their lack of compatibility with Android devices. There is no word on whether the Amazon prime Instant Video app will have the same open compatibility with both types of devices, or if Amazon will decide to stick to just one device category and choose to launch the service on smartphones or tablets. However, Amazon Instant Video’s marketing director Russel Morris has mentioned that a launch of the service on Android is imminent which means it can’t be too far off.

Whether or not Amazon will be able to pull users away from their popular streaming services remains to be seen but one thing that might help is their planned support for 4K video content, another feature of Prime Instant Video that is apparently on the way for a release this year in 2014, with plans to begin shooting all of its original series TV shows in UHD 4K. Now that’s something that people could get on board with, but it might only matter to those who have TV’s that can support the resolution in the first place.
