Big news from DirecTV today, but is it? Starting with the 2014 NFL Season, you don’t need a DirecTV subscription to enjoy NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV is opening the coveted service to anyone that wants to subscribe to the package, allowing them to stream it to their mobile devices or other media streamers. No satellite required.
Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Well before you get too excited, there is a catch. It appears that not everyone will be eligible. DirecTV is looking to only offer this to those that can’t get the satellite service like apartment buildings or if there is something like a tree that would block your line of sight. However, we suspect this will be inconsistent. I can see certain addresses being shown as eligible when they shouldn’t be and vice versa.
There is a good chance that you could call them and tell them that you can’t get the service because there are trees in your way or that you belong to an association that won’t allow dishes. Of course, if there was ever service at the location, you could be SOL. We really don’t know how stringent DirecTV is going to be on this, but it certainly is worth a shot, especially if you refuse to sign up for their basic service.
If DirecTV allows you to sign up for the Ticket, there will be 3 tiers to choose from. $199 gets you the ability to stream to any PC, tablet, or phone. $239 gets you consoles like the Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. For $329, you can stream to ALL devices and they will also include the Red Zone channel and the new Fantasy Zone channel.
Good Luck!!
